The Ouija Board is one of the most intriguing and dangerous items in Phasmophobia. It allows players to communicate directly with the ghost, obtaining valuable information about its identity, location, and mood.

However, improper use can anger the spirit and trigger an immediate hunt. Knowing how to use it correctly is essential for any paranormal investigator who wants to survive and collect evidence efficiently.

How to Find the Ouija Board

The Ouija Board is a Cursed Possession, appearing randomly in each game. Only one cursed item will spawn per map — it can be the Ouija Board or another object such as the Haunted Mirror or the Voodoo Doll.

It can be found in fixed locations within each map — such as attics, basements, garages, or hidden rooms. These spawn points can be memorized over time, but the most practical way is to explore the environment with a flashlight until the board appears on a surface or the floor.

How to Activate the Ouija Board

To activate it, simply approach and press the interaction key.
The planchette will move into position on the board.

To communicate with the ghost, you must press and hold the push-to-talk button while speaking. The ghost will respond if the board is active and it can hear the player.

Questions You Can Ask

The Ouija Board answers a variety of questions. It’s important to speak naturally (in English) so the game can recognize your phrases. Some useful examples include:

Where are you?” – The ghost will answer with the room it’s currently in.

Are you here?” – Indicates whether the ghost is nearby.

How old are you?” – Reveals the ghost’s age, which may change over time.

How long have you been dead?” – Tells how long the ghost has been dead.

What is your favorite room?” – Reveals the ghost’s favorite room.

These responses help determine the entity’s behavior and nature, as well as confirm the area where it’s most active.

The Risks of Using the Board

Using the Ouija Board greatly reduces the sanity of the player asking questions. Each interaction consumes a varying percentage depending on the ghost’s response.

When sanity drops too low, the spirit may immediately start a hunt, making the board a high-risk item.

Additionally, leaving the board without saying goodbye is dangerous. If the player simply walks away, the spirit can become enraged, break the board and trigger a cursed hunt.

How to End the Session Safely

To avoid consequences, always end the contact by saying “Goodbye.” The board will slowly fade out, indicating that the session ended safely.

If the board remains with the cursor, the goodbye wasn’t recognized — meaning the ghost is still listening. In that case, repeat “Goodbye” clearly before stepping away.

Important Tips

  • Monitor your sanity carefully before and after using the board.

  • Avoid using it alone in Professional or Nightmare modes.

  • Identify the ghost room first, so you know where it might attack from.

  • Use it strategically to confirm the ghost’s location without wasting time with sensors or thermometers.

  • Record the ghost’s answers for future reference, as some may change throughout the match.

The Ouija Board in Phasmophobia is a powerful — yet dangerous — tool. It can reveal crucial information, but the cost is always your sanity and the risk of a hunt.

Knowing when and how to use it, and ending contact properly, is what separates a skilled investigator from a reckless one. Use it carefully, and the board can become your greatest ally in paranormal investigations.

And don’t forget — take a photo of it for extra money!
